news chevron and AIP foundation pushes ahead with phase 2 of "street wise" program in songkhla
To support road safety initiatives, Chevron Thailand Exploration and Production Ltd. presented a two million baht grant to the Asia Injury Prevention (AIP) Foundation Thailand to support the second phase of the ‘Chevron Streetwise’ program. Planned for implementation in Singhanakorn and Muang districts in Songkhla province, the project follows the success of Phase one that played a major role in behavioral changes among the students in targeted areas, including an increase of helmet use from 3% to 38%.
The grant presentation ceremony was held at the new Chevron shorebase in Songkhla and was presided over by Veerasak Pungrassamee, director general of Department of Mineral Fuels. Executives in attendance include Pairoj Kaweeyanun, Chevron Thailand president, Artit Krichphiphat, Chevron Business Support general manager, Ratanawadee Hemniti Winther, Country Director for the Asia Injury Prevention (AIP) Foundation Thailand and representatives from schools under the project.
The project aims to help prevent road accidents by promoting road safety awareness and disciplines that actively creates a culture of road safety through curriculum development with school executives as well as teacher training courses, and educating school children and their parents with road safety knowledge.
The second phase of “Chevron Streetwise” has expanded to five additional schools in Singhanakorn district, including Wat Bo Pab school, Wat Thammakot school, Wat Sathit Chollatarn school, Wat Loka school and Wat Taluangkong school. It is expected that the project will benefit more than 15,000 students, teachers and parents. The overall goal is that by educating and promoting a culture of safety, there will be a reduction of the number of road accidents near targeted schools and beyond.
The “Streetwise” project is a partnership between Chevron Thailand, the AIP Foundation and government agencies in Songkhla. Its first phase was implemented from 2014 to 2016 with the total grant of 4,400,000 baht, with six participating schools and 13,800 students, teachers and parents, in Singhanakorn and Muang Districts in Songkhla province. Under the project, 2,000 helmets were also distributed to students in need in participating schools.
