Chevron is actively involved in community and social development in areas where we operate through a variety of corporate responsibility programs with local partners. We are working to improve lives through the 4 E’s – Environment & Energy Conservation, Economic Development, Education, and Employee Engagement.

protecting the environment and conserving energy

Chevron has partnered with key governmental and non-governmental organizations on environment and energy conservation initiatives.

'Foster Future Forests' project

'Foster Future Forests' Project

In 2023, Chevron Thailand Exploration and Production, Ltd. (CTEP) and Star Petroleum Refining Public Company Limited (SPRC) launched the ‘Foster Future Forests’ project, in conjunction with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment’s Department of Marine and Coastal Resources (DMCR), Rayong Provincial Government, other government agencies, academic institutions, and local communities in Rayong. The project’s objective is to initiate ecological restoration at a 100-rai under-developed area of the ‘Phra Chedi Klang Nam’ mangrove forests, starting with the expansion of green space to aid in carbon sequestration.

Chevron, together with the Energy Systems Research Institute at Prince of Songkhla University (PSU), has pushed forward the “Biogas Rubber Project”. Since 2015, Chevron has supported the institute with a total budget exceeding 10 million baht. This support is directed at reducing the environmental impact and enhancing the sustainability of rubber sheet production. Under this program, cooperatives in Songkhla province have achieved a reduction in carbon emissions of up to 425 tons per year, or approximately 31% of their previous levels. This initiative serves as a model for transferring knowledge to other cooperatives in the province.

Chevron is also helping to conserve the environment in the Gulf of Thailand through the Rigs-to-Reefs Project in Koh Pha-Ngan, Surat Thani, in collaboration between Department of Marine and Coastal Resources and Chulalongkorn University with support from the Department of Mineral Fuels.

empowering economic development

To help build stronger, more self-reliant communities, we initiated a number of livelihood and economic projects.

Chevron Fund4Life

Since 2015, Chevron has been supporting the Fund4Life Entrepreneurial Support for Women Breadwinners by providing funding and occupational equipment to the Raks Thai Foundation. The funding helps provide occupational knowledge, career training, and financial support for women breadwinners affected by political unrest in the provinces of Pattani, Yala, and Narathiwat. The successful implementation of the project helps enhance the ability of female breadwinners to succeed in their entrepreneurial efforts and leadership, as well as disseminate knowledge to other peer groups. So far, the project has 4,000 direct beneficiaries, plus more than 28,000 indirect beneficiaries (as of December 2023).

Chevron has partnered with the Asia Injury Prevention Foundation (AIP) since 2014 to implement the Chevron Street Wise program in Songkhla and Nakhon Si Thammarat provinces. A program which aims to create a safer environment for road users, especially young children, through education, awareness-raising, and stakeholder and community engagement. The project has benefited over 30,000 children, parents, teachers, and community members, who have demonstrated improved road safety knowledge and skills throughout its implementation.

In support of promoting Songkhla to become a member of the Thailand Creative Cities Network (TCCN) and UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN), Chevron has worked with the Songkhla Heritage Trust (SHT) on a series of Kid+Dee Historic projects. These initiatives include academic seminars and study trips to highlight the charming architectural styles, a creative designers' week, and cultural heritage learning resources of Songkhla's old town. The total budget allocated for these endeavors is 6 million baht, starting from 2017.

supporting education

Education is the cornerstone of Chevron’s community activities in Thailand. We fully support Thai education through scholarships, science and technology activities, and vocational training.

Southeast Asian Teacher Education Program

The Office of National Higher Education Science Research and Innovation Policy Council (NXPO), the Teachers’ Council of Thailand, the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization Regional Centre for STEM Education (SEAMEO STEM-ED), and Chevron jointly launched “Southeast Asian Teacher Education Program (SEA-TEP)”. A program designed to set up demonstration sites for better production of teachers, SEA-TEP has already attracted 10 universities. As part of Chevron Enjoy Science, SEA-TEP is another step the project is taking to further strive for deliverable results at policy-making level. It is designed to empower educational personnel particularly those who teaches STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), which is undeniably a foundation for national development in the long run. Chevron has supported the program in the forms of funding and the provision of specialists, training, research grants, and educational activities under the budget of 12 million baht.

Chevron and the National Astronomical Research Institute of Thailand (NARIT) have been working towards the same goal of raising awareness among youngsters and the general public about astronomy. The efforts have resulted in various endeavors, including a mobile planetarium, local astronomy youth camps, exhibitions, 3D learning centers, and roadshows, with a budget of 31 million baht since 2017.

In addition, with Chevron’s continuous support, the Regional Observatory for the Public in Songkhla is recognized as the major astronomy learning center in the south and Thailand’s first Islamic astronomy learning center. The NARIT regional observatory in Songkhla has attracted more than 600,000 visitors to date (as of December 2023).

For over three decades since 1991, Chevron has joined forces with Walailak University and the Marine and Coastal Resources Research & Development Institute to organize the Marine Ecology Summer Camp. The aim is to disseminate knowledge and build capacity on the study of marine ecosystems in Thailand. Every year, 30-50 participants take part in a 1-month program to learn about marine ecosystems and resources. Since its inception, the program has attracted over 900 participants.

promoting employee engagement

Chevron provides opportunities for personnel and their families to help improve community well-being by contributing their time, energy and talent. Every year, hundreds of Chevron volunteers participated in activities throughout Thailand, such as renovating schools, building check dams and irrigation canals, donating school supplies and building learning centers. Personnel also joined activities at mosques during Ramadan and at temples during Buddhist days.

Chevron Humankind offers a one-to-one company match to 10 eligible nonprofits in Thailand. Chevron employees have contributed more than 26 million baht (as of December 2023), an amount that was matched by the company.
