press release Chevron shares vision for AI-driven energy transformation at ASEAN Oil and Gas Conference 2025

Chevron Thailand Exploration and Production, Ltd. participated in the ASEAN Oil and Gas Conference 2025 under the theme “Navigating the Energy Transition: Focusing on Innovation, Market Dynamics, and Sustainable Growth in ASEAN’s Oil and Gas Sector.” The event was organized by Fireworks Media (Thailand) Co., Ltd., with official support from the Ministry of Energy and leading private sector partners in the industry.

The conference brought together over 500 operators, investors, experts, and stakeholders to exchange knowledge, showcase innovations, build networks, and stay informed regional and global energy trends. Representing Chevron, Ms. Porpich Pongparnish, Vice President of Information Technology, shared strategies for leveraging AI and digital technologies to enhance operational efficiency, develop workforce capabilities, and support the energy transition— advancing a lower carbon future and making energy more affordable and reliable for Thailand. The panel was titled “AI Trends and Opportunities in Oil & Gas: Transforming the Industry for the Future,” featured executives from leading energy companies.

Ms. Porpich shared an overview of Thailand’s energy sector, stating: “Thailand’s energy industry faces challenges from rising demand and the pressures of energy transition. At the same time, there are substantial opportunities for digital transformation and AI as key enablers to safely deliver energy security commitment and to differentiate the business performance. Over the past decade, we have witnessed significant changes driven by digital technologies, which continue to propel the industry's development."

Speaking on digital transformation and AI adoption, Ms. Porpich added, “Chevron began its digital transformation journey in 2016, introducing technologies such as IoT, Cloud, data science and machine learning, and RPA to enhance overall process efficiency. In the past two years, we have advanced to leveraging Generative AI to improve production efficiency, safety, and decision-making in operational areas.

“AI is front and center in our business strategy, with a human centric approach and integration across the value chain – covering everything from seismic data interpretation in exploration to real-time production optimization and predictive abnormality analysis.”

Porpich continued, “In the Bangkok office, we established the Integrated Operations Center (IOC) as the centralized control hub to monitor and manage production operations remotely, integrating multiple control rooms from offshore to onshore in one location. This IOC is powered by AI to monitor abnormal events of our critical operations equipment in real time and to predict equipment failures, minimizing loss of production opportunities and enabling condition-based maintenance. Generative AI adds intelligence on top of the existing predictive analytic tool, allowing our crew to quickly access insights on how to troubleshoot issues.

“Most recently, the enterprise is pacing toward Agentic AI in a safe manner, with a focus on speed to value—creating systems capable of autonomous decision-making in complex scenarios and driving innovations that deliver real value.

“In addition to investing in technology, Chevron prioritizes digital skill development for our workforce at all levels—from basic knowledge and access to tools like Microsoft Copilot to establishing Citizen Developers for low-code and automation training. This empowers employees to create solutions for their own work challenges, improving efficiency and reducing time,” said Porpich.

Ms. Porpich concluded, “Driving national progress through innovation and technology requires government support, including investment in scalable and reliable infrastructure and data centers—the backbone of AI development—as well as regulatory improvements to enable rapid and safe technology adoption. These measures will accelerate innovation and strengthen Thailand’s competitiveness.”

AI is now playing a pivotal role in advancing the global energy industry, serving as a tool to enhance efficiency, safety, and sustainability. Investment in infrastructure and collaboration across all sectors will enable Thailand to accelerate AI adoption in energy production, ensuring energy security and boosting competitiveness on the international stage.
