extend the concept of sustainable soil-water-forest management

Forging ahead for the sixth consecutive year, Chevron Thailand Exploration and Production, Ltd. in collaboration with the Institute of Sufficiency Economy, Agri-Nature Foundation and King Mongkut’s Institution of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL) organized the “Power of Human Energy: A Journey Inspired by the King” press conference to expand on the concept of sustainable soil-water-forest management in accordance with His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s Philosophy.

This year sees the conclusion of the expansion phase, the project’s second phase. This phase aims to multiply the impact the project has on building committed project members that follow the Late King’s footstep and on shaping learning centers across the country into permanent tools for learning. The project has been driven by the concept of “Nationwide Expansion”, powered by testimonials of campaign role models who successfully adopted the Late King’s philosophy into their daily practice, wherever they are located. To achieve sustainable solutions to flood-drought problems, the project is set to be implemented in all 25 watersheds across Thailand, in addition to the pilot Pa Sak Watershed.

Dr. Wiwat Salyakamthorn, deputy minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, said, “We strongly believe that the Late King’s philosophy which he led by example for over 70 years will play an important part in finding the solutions to global crises. Therefore, all parties have come together to propel the project forward which has already covered 24 watersheds and has cultivated a culture of lifelong learning among our networks. Gearing the Late King’s Philosophy towards sustainable agriculture requires cooperation from many sectors. Chief among all partners are members of the public, making up the largest number of participants. By joining hands in unity, the initiative will be carried out successfully.”

Artit Krichphiphat, business support general manager, Chevron Thailand Exploration and Production, Ltd., said, “Chevron has been a major advocate of this project for 6 years as it is in line with our social investment goals. The project engages the public on sustainable development goal as well as corresponds with all four of Chevron’s social investment cornerstones, including Education, Environment and Energy Conservation, Economic Development and Employee Volunteerism and Engagement. Building strong, self-reliant communities and instilling a sense of volunteerism among our workforce, evident in the rising number of employees participating in project activities every year, are integral to our commitment to the kingdom. We are devoted to furthering the late King’s legacy and we aspire to raise wider awareness of his Sufficiency Economy philosophy, ensuring its future as the chosen agriculture practice for Thai farmers.”

This year, the activity will be held in four provinces including Bangkok, Chanthaburi, Saraburi, and Nan. The first in this series began in April at Than Thamturakit, Rama 9, Bangkok, with the establishment of the “Sufficiency Economy Learning Center” in the heart of the capital city, which focuses on farming models suitable for urban dwellers with limited budget and space. Almost 300 people from affiliated networks nationwide including Chevron employees joined the event.
