news chevron supports the cardiac children foundation of Thailand

Chevron Thailand Exploration and Production, Ltd. and partners have given a donation to the Cardiac Children Foundation of Thailand, Under the Royal Patronage of H.R.H. Princess Galyani Vadhana Krom Luang Naradhiwas Rajanagarinda, to sponsor an after-hours pediatric cardiac surgery project. The foundation was established to treat children with severe heart disease who require urgent surgery. Pornsuree Konanta, manager of Communications and Social Investment, Chevron Thailand Exploration and Production, Ltd., represented the company in presenting 500,000 baht donation to Assistant Professor Thanarat Layangool, MD, foundation president. This donation will be used to enable child patients of the Foundation who lack funds for treatment in order to lead normal lives and go on to be the future of their family and country.

 

Chevron Thailand Exploration and Production, Ltd., has for six years, sponsored the Foundation via the Pediatric Cardiac Surgery project in Thailand for those without funds for surgery. It has helped a total of over 350 children receive surgery. However, there remains a large number of children with heart disease who are waiting for surgery and are still lacking funds. This year Chevron Thailand Exploration and Production, Ltd. and joint ventures, namely Mitsui Oil Exploration Co., Ltd., PTT Exploration and Production Public Company Limited, and Palang Sophon Limited will continue to sponsor for the sixth year. There are 7,000-8,000 children are born with congenital heart disease in Thailand each year, but there are currently not enough institutions throughout the country doing pediatric cardiac surgery. Also, these institutions can perform surgery on at most 2,500 children per year. This ongoing contribution to the Foundation is therefore one way to help give children a better chance of getting the surgery they need and a better quality of life.
