news chevron pushes ahead with “benchamas 2” floating, storage and offloading vessel project

Management of Chevron Offshore (Thailand) Ltd. (“COTL”) recently attended the commencement ceremony of Floating, Storage and Offloading Vessel (FSO) ‘Benchamas 2’ conversion at the Malaysia Marine and Heavy Engineering Holdings Berhad (MMHE) shipyard, Johor Bahru, Malaysia. The FSO Benchamas 2 is expected to commence operations in 2018 to support Chevron’s operations in the Gulf of Thailand.
The commencement ceremony of the FSO Benchams 2 is one of the key milestones of the project, after COTL and MISC Offshore Floating Terminals (L) Limited (MOFT) signed the contract of the FSO in August 2016. Once completed, the new vessel will replace the current Benchamas Explorer FSO to support safe, reliable, and continuous production from Chevron-operated fields within Block B8/32 and G4/43 in the Gulf of Thailand.
Executives in attendance include Pairoj Kaweeyanun, president of COTL, Wan Mashitah Wan Abdullah Sani, Managing Director/CEO of Malaysia Marine and Heavy Engineering Holdings Berhad, and Syed Hashim bin Syed Abdullah, Vice President of MISC’s Offshore Business and Director of MOFT.
FSO Benchamas 2 will feature the latest storage and offloading technologies, safety systems and environmental safeguards. The vessel has a cargo capacity of over 117,000 cubic meters, or about 740,000 barrels of oil equivalent. The ceremony highlighted the ongoing commitment and trust between Chevron and MISC, as well as, demonstrated the company’s commitment to safely and reliably provide energy to the Kingdom of Thailand.
